I suspect that it appeals more to the poorly educated unwashed masses. I just can't believe that someone with a proper education can actually accept this system.

While the Christian bible has a lot of annoying edicts to kill certain types of people including gays, people who work on the Sabbath, unbelievers, etc.... the Quran seem to be chalk full of edicts and orders to kill, behead, mutilate, and enslave unbelievers.

Any religion that endorses violence is incapable of delivering spiritual enlightment. How obvious does this have to be.

Any religion that demands earthly vengeance and retribution for any reason is not a religion at all, but a mental illness and should be treated as such.

The good news from my point of view as an atheist is that I am not treated any differently than a Jew or Christian. We are all going to their Muslim hell. Obviously, the Muslims are going to the Christian hell.
The most often used excuse for the the violence in the Quran is that it can only be read in Arabic and words will not translate well into another language like English.
It seems strange that there is an underlying current of violence because Allah is frequently referenced as

Do you see churches, temples, or cathedrals in countries that are Muslim theocracies. See any religion in Saudi Arabia other than Islam. Do you see thriving capitalism in all Muslim countries.
If Muslims have no tolerance for free speech, then Muslims are not worthy of the Privileges of the First Amendment. They do not understand that the U.S. Constitution is one of our Sacred Texts and is one of the Holiest of Holies.

Women are generally forbidden access to education or work, subjected to strict dress and behavior codes and punished in humiliating ways for infractions of these. Any woman who supports Islam better buy some burqas for herself. The Quran states that she is equal to half a man.

Islam does not even recognize the existence of the book The Origin of Species and it does not not even talk about evolution. They do not deny evolution , they simply refuse to acknowledge its very existence.

Animosity between Jews and Muslims (All in the family)

Likely, this caused even more contempt in Ishmael's heart towards Isaac. An angel prophesied to Hagar that Ishmael would "live in hostility toward all his brothers' (Genesis 16:11-12).
