FRAMINGHAM - The President of Temple Beth Sholom, David Levinson, announced today, August 20, that the congregation has voted overwhelmingly to accept Rabbi Gordon as their spiritual leader effective immediately. Rabbi Gordon was previously the spiritual leader at Temple Mishkan Tefila in Newton and is also Rabbi Emeritus at Germantown Jewish Centre in Philadelphia, where he served for 16 years. Rabbi Gordon will serve in this post for at least 11 months while the congregation begins a search for a permanent rabbi. "I am delighted to be joining Temple Beth Sholom as your interim rabbi," said Rabbi Gordon in a message to the congregation, "and I look forward to supporting the congregation in visioning its future." Temple Beth Sholom hopes to welcome a permanent Rabbi on July 1, 2019. The position was previously filled by Rabbi Laurence Bazer, who accepted a post in the Office of the Chaplain for the National Guard in Washington, DC. Founded in 1885, Temple Beth Sholom is an egalitarian Conservative congregation affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. The Temple serves about 200 families in the Metro West Boston area.
