Wikipedia defines Theology as the critical study of the nature of the divine (take that "critical" with a grain of salt, I suppose). Got Questions defines Christian Theology as an attempt to understand God as He is revealed in the Bible. The huge problem is that the divine has in no way been convincingly proven to exist, nor has the Bible been shown to reveal God, nor even that this God exists. So theology starts off on an unproven assumption, and then proceeds to generate all sorts of interpretations and speculations based on it, which you learn when you study this field. Consider the first unproven assumption, Genesis 1:1: In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth. Sounds quite pointless. A man studying theology is like a man who is blindfolded in a totally dark room looking for a black cat that doesn't exist but he still finds a cat. Here is the tragedy of theology in its distilled essence: The employment of high-powered human intellect, of genius, of profoundly rigorous logical deduction - studying nothing. In the Middle Ages, the great minds capable of transforming the world did not study the world; and so, for most of a millennium, as human beings screamed in agony - decaying from starvation, eaten by leprosy and plague, dying in droves in their twenties - the men of the mind, who could have provided their earthly salvation, abandoned them for otherworldly fantasies. Believing this horseshit is simply the Kiss of Death. This is the verbal equivalent of reaching down your throat, pulling out your own intestines, wrapping them around your neck and choking yourself. When we hear this our impulse is to thwack you a good one on your keester with the frozen haddock we keep within arm's reach just for this occasion. While believing strongly, without evidence, is considered a mark of madness or stupidity in any other area of our lives, faith in God still holds immense prestige in our society. Religion is the one area of our discourse where it is considered noble to pretend to be certain about things no human being could possibly be certain about. It is telling that this aura of nobility extends only to those faiths that still have many subscribers. Anyone caught worshipping Poseidon, even at sea, will be thought insane. I do not know the total headcount of the clergy (pastors, priests, rabbis) but these are fundamentally non-productive people. They produce nothing, make nothing that really improves society in any way. They are deadwood in our society. If you cannot, or are unable or unwilling to accept reality for what it really is, then you are either retarded, stupid or delusional. Take your pick. It was a shame to waste money to teach them biology, astronomy or science in general and watch them go into the service of God, the imaginary sky fairy, so they could peddle their superstition. All they do for their lives is to study the Bible, the Torah or the Quran, all of which are really horrible works of fiction. Their income is based on contributions of their audience. They are leeches or maggots, feeding on their parishioners. As one of their flock (meaning you regard yourself to be sheep), you listen to these morons telling you what will happen to you after death even if they haveq not experienced death themselves to develop that knowledge and experience. They tell you not to jerk off but the catholic clergy are having anal sex with altar boys. They stand firm upon the bare proposition that God has spoken authoritatively and inerrantly in the pages of the holy Scripture. We often talk about Muslim extremists, but the clergy here in Framingham are Christian or Jewish extremists. The clerical profession work tirelessly in misdirecting the human race by suggesting we ignore the evidence we see before us, such as evolution.. They are the true evolution deniers. They never open their mouths without subtracting from the sum of human knowledge. I refuse to argue with any member of the clergy, including priests, pastors, rabbis and imans and any of their junior lackeys. To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine It just seems counterintuitive to have members of the clergy that are intelligent. They are all evolution deniers. The carefully prepared weekly sermons by the Framingham clergy are chiefly used to facilitate the infection of idiocy, promote non-intellectual crime, and commit fraud in general on a large scale.
