Completely destroy them- the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanite, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites-as the lord your god has commanded you. Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshipping their gods, and you will sin against the lord your god. If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them, then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his home town. Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear of it and fear. The Earth Is Flat
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. The Bible is far from a good moral guide, and when you look closely at its contents, it’s astounding that anyone still defends it as a source of ethics. Let’s start with slavery. Not only does the Bible fail to condemn slavery, but it gives detailed instructions on how to own, treat, and even beat slaves (Exodus 21:20-21, Leviticus 25:44-46). It doesn’t just tolerate slavery—it normalizes it, treating human beings as property based on nothing but arbitrary factors like birth or war. Then there’s the rampant sexism. Women are treated as second-class citizens, seen as property themselves in many cases. The Bible explicitly tells women to submit to their husbands (Ephesians 5:22-24) and even dictates that a rape victim must marry her rapist if he pays her father some silver (Deuteronomy 22:28-29). That’s not morality—that’s institutionalized misogyny. Racism? It’s there too. The so-called "curse of Ham" (Genesis 9:20-27) has been historically weaponized to justify the enslavement and oppression of black people. While some apologists try to spin this narrative, the Bible’s ambiguity allows for such interpretations, and its followers have exploited it for centuries to perpetuate bigotry. And don’t even get me started on the overall authoritarianism. The Bible constantly prioritizes obedience to God over human compassion or logic. Abraham being willing to sacrifice his son Isaac is the perfect example. That story is often held up as an act of great faith, but let’s call it what it is: a terrifying endorsement of blind obedience. A truly moral person would question such a command and refuse to carry it out. When you look at the followers of the Bible, the fruits of this moral system become even clearer. Bigotry, hatred, and an obsession with controlling others are common themes. It’s no coincidence that many who cling to Biblical morality also oppose LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and social progress. They aren’t respecting people—they’re respecting the authority of an ancient text, even when it contradicts basic human decency. A moral system rooted in empathy, reason, and fairness is far superior to one that condones slavery, sexism, and blind obedience. The Bible is a relic of its time, and it shows in its deeply flawed morality. And it’s worth asking: why are modern fascists so fond of the Bible? Why indeed.
